Disproving Martin Filler...

To disprove Martin Filler's characterization [in "Wright in Love," NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS, November 20, 2008] that Franklin Toker's lecture on E. J. Kaufmann at Columbia University, November 8, 1986, contained any "gratuitous revelations," a complete scan of the entire lecture text follows below. It is preceded by Martin Filler's letter to Toker of July 6, 1999, which recalled that same lecture as one of "candor," not scandal. In the same cordial letter, Filler welcomed the appearance of Toker's book on Fallingwater. Both those passages explicitly contradict what Filler wrote in his recent attack on Toker and his book.
